The steps below cover everything in this lesson. Follow them in your own Kade, then check yourself at the end.

Before you start

  • Kade set up on your first PC (the earlier lessons), and Kade installed on the new PC.
  • Both PCs on the same shop network.
  • The owner password you set when you first set up Kade. Adding a device is for the Owner.

Step by step

1. Start pairing on the first PC

On the PC that already has your shop, go to Administration › Devices & network and press Add device. Enter your Owner password (not your PIN) and press Create code. Kade shows an 8-character Pairing code and how long until it expires.

2. Join from the new PC

On the new PC, open Kade. In the setup wizard choose Join an existing business and give This PC's name, such as Till 2. Under Find your shop, pick your business from the list of shops on this network.

3. Type the pairing code

Type the pairing code shown on the first PC. A code works once, for a few minutes, and three wrong tries end it. If it expires, create a new one.

4. Let it copy your data

The new PC shows Receiving data with a count of changes. Keep this window open until it finishes. Then the new PC shows the sign-in screen with your shop's users, the same as on the first PC.

5. If the new PC can't find your shop

Some networks hide PCs from each other. In the Add a device window on the first PC, press Copy next to the Pairing ticket. On the new PC choose Paste pairing ticket, paste it and type the code.

6. Check the sync

Back in Administration › Devices & network, each PC has a row with its Code, Signed-in user, Connection, Last seen, Behind / ahead and Version. Each PC has its own code letter, which goes into the document numbers it issues, so two PCs never issue the same number.

Good to know

  • Kade has no server. Every PC holds the whole shop and sells on its own, with or without the internet.
  • When the internet is down, the shop network keeps every till in sync. A PC that is switched off catches up with what it missed when it comes back.
  • Keep every PC on the same version of Kade. When another PC is newer, Kade says Another PC is on a newer version — update this PC.
  • Shops in different places can sync over the internet: turn on Allow devices over the internet in Administration › Devices & network. It is off by default.
  • To retire a PC, open its row and press Revoke device. It stops syncing, but data it already copied can't be recalled.

Try it yourself

  1. On your first PC, open Administration › Devices & network and press Add device.
  2. Enter your owner password and press Create code.
  3. On the second PC, choose Join an existing business, find your shop and type the code.
  4. Make a sale on one till and check it appears on the other.

Recap

Press Add device on the first PC to get a one-time pairing code, then choose Join an existing business on the new PC and type it. Your PCs keep each other up to date over the shop network, even when the internet is down.
