  3. Last backup
  4. Back up now
  5. Destinations and restore points
  6. Schedule & retention
  7. Audit log
  8. Filters
  9. Routine events

Before you start

  • You are the owner or a manager. A manager can run backups and read the audit log; only the owner changes the schedule or restores.
  • A backup folder was set up when the business was created (see the Create your business lesson).

Step by step

1. Backup & restore

Backups live in Administration › Backup & restore.

2. Last backup

The top card shows the Last backup that was verified: which PC made it, its size, and that it is encrypted.

3. Back up now

Press Back up now any time, for example before a big change. Kade backs up to every destination and verifies the copy.

4. Destinations and restore points

Destinations on this PC lists where backups go. Restore points lists every backup you can return to, manual or automatic.

5. Schedule & retention

Backups also run on their own. Schedule & retention shows how often, and how many daily, weekly and monthly copies are kept. Edit schedule changes it.

6. Audit log

The Audit log, also in Administration, records who did what, on which PC, and when, in plain sentences. Nobody can edit or delete it.

7. Filters

Chips narrow the list to Voids, Price changes, Discounts, Sign-ins, Devices or Backups.

8. Routine events

Routine events, like sign-ins, locks and finished backups, are hidden. Tick Show routine events to see them too.

Good to know

  • Backups are encrypted with your backup password. Without it, they can't run or be restored.
  • By default Kade keeps 7 daily, 4 weekly and 12 monthly copies. Backups you take with Back up now are never pruned.
  • Edit schedule can also back up at day close, check the database first, and warn you when the last verified backup is older than a set number of days.
  • A destination can be a folder or second drive, a USB drive, or a synced folder such as OneDrive or Dropbox.

Try it yourself

  1. Open Administration › Backup & restore and check when the last verified backup was made.
  2. Press Back up now and watch a new restore point appear.
  3. Open the Audit log, click the Price changes chip, then tick Show routine events.

Recap

Kade backs up on its own, encrypted and verified, and Back up now takes an extra copy whenever you want one. The Audit log tells you who did what, in plain sentences that nobody can change.
