The steps below cover everything in this lesson. Follow them in your own Kade, then check yourself at the end.

Before you start

  • You are signed in as the Owner or a Manager. Managers can see updates and send diagnostics; only the Owner installs an update.
  • A backup destination that works, because Kade backs up before every update.

Step by step

1. Open Updates

Go to Administration › Updates. The top line says which version this PC runs, and when Kade last checked. The list shows each version with its Version, Released, Source and Status.

2. Check for a new version

Press Check online. If there is nothing new, Kade says You have the latest version. A new version shows as Available to download: select it and press Download. Kade also checks by itself about once a day when the PC is online.

3. Install from a file

For a PC without internet, copy the update file onto a USB drive, press Install from file and choose it. Kade only installs files signed by Kade, and refuses a version that isn't newer than the one on this PC.

4. Let your other PCs share it

When one PC has an update, your other PCs fetch it over the shop network. On those PCs it shows with the source Another PC and the status Ready to install. Versions on each PC shows which version every PC runs.

5. Install and restart

Select a version that is Ready to install to read its notes, then press Install and restart. A backup is taken first. Kade restarts on the new version, and your data stays as it is. If the backup doesn't finish, the update isn't installed: check the backup screen, or press Install without a backup.

6. Roll back if you need to

Kade keeps the previous version on the PC. Roll back to that version switches back. If a new version fails to start, Kade goes back to the previous one by itself.

7. Send diagnostics to support

If support asks for diagnostics, go to the Administration overview and press Send diagnostics. The file holds logs, versions and sync facts from this PC. Tick Include my business data (only if support asks) only when asked. Press Save to file to send it yourself, or Send when online.

Good to know

  • Updates are included until the date on the License screen (Updates included until). A newer version shows Not included in your license — renew to install.
  • Keep all your PCs on the same version. When another PC is newer, Kade says Another PC is on a newer version — update this PC.
  • Administration › Logs shows the errors, warnings and actions this PC has recorded. PINs, passwords and record contents are never written.
  • A diagnostics file you send offline waits and goes when the PC is online.

Try it yourself

  1. Open Administration › Updates and read which version this PC runs.
  2. Press Check online.
  3. Look at Versions on each PC.
  4. Go to the Administration overview, press Send diagnostics, read what it includes, and press Close.

Recap

Administration › Updates finds new versions online, from another PC or from a file. Install and restart backs up first, and you can roll back. Send diagnostics gives support the logs and versions they need, without your business data unless you tick the box.
