  2. Register & shift
  3. Cash out
  4. Count the drawer
  5. Check the count
  6. Close the shift
  7. The Z-report
  8. Recap

Before you start

  • A shift is open on this PC, and you have sold from it (see the Your first sale lesson).
  • Have the drawer in front of you, ready to count by notes and coins.

Step by step

1. Register & shift

Every drawer runs in shifts. Open Point of Sale › Register & shift to see each session, the cash expected, what was counted and the difference.

2. Cash out

Money taken from the drawer during the day is recorded with Cash out. Enter the amount, choose a category such as Petty expense, and save.

3. Count the drawer

At the end of the day, choose Close current shift and count the cash by notes and coins. The count is blind: Kade doesn't show what it expects until you have counted.

4. Check the count

Press Check count. Now Kade shows the cash expected and the difference. A difference needs a reason before the shift can close.

5. Close the shift

Decide how much to keep as float for the next shift; the rest goes to the bank. Then press Close shift.

6. The Z-report

The Z-report sums up the shift: sales, refunds, cash movements and the count. Press Print for another copy.

Good to know

  • Expected cash is the opening float, plus cash sales, minus cash refunds, plus cash in, minus cash out.
  • Cash out categories are Petty expense, Owner withdrawal, Float top-up, Bank deposit and Other. Cash in works the same way for money put into the drawer.
  • By default a cashier can move up to 5,000.00 in or out of the drawer; anything above that needs a manager's PIN.
  • Each PC has one open shift at a time. Once it is closed, open a new shift with a counted float before the next sale.

Try it yourself

  1. Open Register & shift and record a small Cash out as a Petty expense.
  2. Choose Close current shift, count the drawer, and press Check count.
  3. If there is a difference, type the reason, decide the float to keep, and close the shift.

Recap

Back in Register & shift, the closed session shows what was expected, what was counted, and the difference.
